Graça Neighbourhood Lisbon: Authentic Lisbon Above the Tourist Crowds
Graça is the soul of old Lisbon — a hilltop neighbourhood that feels like the city did before tourism transformed the centre. Perched above Alfama, this residential enclave is beloved for its authentic tascas, independent coffee spots, and the weekly Feira da Ladra flea market at Campo de Santa Clara (Tuesday and Saturday mornings). The Miradouro da Graça terrace offers some of the finest sunset views in Lisbon, rivalling the more famous Portas do Sol but drawing a largely local crowd. Stroll the Calçada do Monte for colourful tile-decorated buildings and old-school tabacarias. Stop for lunch at one of the tascas serving grilled chicken, bacalhau, and house wine for under €10. Graça is the antidote to Alfama's tourist crowds — walk uphill 10 minutes from São Vicente and find the Lisbon that Lisboetas actually inhabit and love.
